Kaleden & Okanagan Falls

Kaleden and Okanagan Falls are two little gems on Skaha Lake. Most people don't realize that the city limit of Penticton is just a short drive down Eastside Road as your head South around Skaha Lake, and then the Regional District and area of Okanagan Falls begins. These two areas are smaller communities but they do have a lot to offer.

Kaleden

Firstly is Kaleden. Nestled on the West side of Skaha Lake and located only 5 minutes from the end of town, many visitors to the area don't even know this gem exists. It's wonderful little village that is a great place to raise a family. There is a real tight knit community here that holds many activities for the local families. They are lucky enough to enjoy one of the nicest beaches around. Just at the bottom of Lakehill Road is Pioneer Park and Beach. Here you will find a nice sandy spot, tennis courts, playground for the kids, and a dock to swim out too. The KVR trail comes right past here along the lake and continues on to Ok falls. It's the perfect spot to bike or walk into Penticton and not be along the road. Down by the beach you will find the picture perfect remnants of the old Kaleden hotel, a framework of the building that is right on the lake and a popular spot to take wedding pics.

Kaleden has its own little store, a fantastic elementary school, a volunteer fire department and more. One of our favourite places in Kaleden is Linden Gardens. This beautiful spot is a 9 acre venue of gardens, a popular spot for outdoor weddings it also hosts events and has a great place to have a bite at The Frog City Cafe. Kaleden also has its own community hall which is always holding events for residents. There is also a lovely library which is a wonderful resource for families. If you're from out of town, or you have visiting guests, Kaleden is home to the perfect little hide-a-way spot at Ponderosa Point. These beautiful cabins are right on the lake nestled in tall old pine trees. It's a beautiful quiet spot yet right close to both Penticton or Ok Falls. Kaleden is also the home to many fruit stands. It also has a few wineries to call its own, like Kraze Legs Winery. If you're a golfer, head out to St. Andrews by the Lake. Here you will find a small but lovely community on a golf course in a Valley.

Okanagan Falls

At the South end of Skaha Lake, and winding its way back towards Penticton on the East side of the Lake is Okanagan Falls. Ok Falls is another small community with real charm. The Village itself is right on the lake and it's tiny downtown contains a collection of antique and thrift stores, a grocery store, a pub and some cafes. There is a beautiful stretch of beach and many homes are lucky enough to be within just a block or two. One of our favourite spots is to come to Kenyon Park and Beach. It's a grassy and treed spot where events are hosted throughout the summer. You can get on the KVR trail from here and bike or walk all the way back to Kaleden or Penticton, or go for a bike right the way around the lake. Of course a trip to Ok Falls wouldn't be complete without a stop at Tickleberry's Ice Cream. Get your sugar fix here and then wander the little downtown area and check out some of the local stores like Jardin Antiques and Jewelry. Okanagan Falls does have its own elementary school, and there are many families that chose to live here where the homes are a bit more affordable, and it's easier to find a rural or acreage property for a hobby farm or workshop.

Just above the little downtown area of Ok Falls is a winery called See Ya Later Ranch. Come up here for a stunning view back over the valley, a cool property and dog friendly winery, and grab a bite to eat while having some wine. We'd recommend a glass of their gewürztraminer. If you head along Eastside Road toward Penticton you will pass some lovely little communities like Skaha Estates, and Heritage Hills. Here many big and beautiful homes take in lovely views of the Lake and Valley. Along this Road when you're almost back in Penticton you will find the Skaha Bluffs climbing area, and Painted Rock Winery. For a more upscale wine experiance, come up to their new, stunning and modern tasting room. With beautiful architecture, 180 degree views, and high quality red wines, you won't be disappointed you came to check it out. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in the OK Falls area there are some relly unique places that you should check out. One is God's Mountain. This estate has a wonderful location, and is a great place to stay, there is even their famous "roofless room" where you sleep under the stars in a room with a rustic fireplace, open ceiling, and private hot tub. Another place to try is Big Horn Ridge B&B, an adobe style guest house on 10 acres of naturally landscaped desert-scape.

Kaleden and Okanagan Falls have a lot to offer residents and visitors alike. Often over-looked by out of towners, these two areas could become your new favourite spot!
